Busy week for Nvidia

In less than a week Nvidia managed to release updated Unix and Linux drivers for nearly all of their active branches: 304.84 (legacy driver for GeForce 6 and 7 series), 313.26 (SNvidiahort Lived Branch version), 310.40 (Long Lived Branch version) and finally 173.14.37 (legacy driver for GeForce FX series).

The changes aren’t spectacular, they’re mostly bug fixes or support for the new GPUs¬† / X.org xserver ABI, but they are welcome. As someone commented on my previous Nvidia post, the updated Nvidia 313.26 installer for Linux no longer needs tweaking or patching to install on Fedora 18 with kernel 3.8 and I confirm it works out of the box with kernel 3.8.2-206.fc18.x86_64.

sudo dkms -m nvidia status
nvidia, 313.26, 3.8.1-201.fc18.x86_64, x86_64: installed
nvidia, 313.26, 3.8.2-206.fc18.x86_64, x86_64: installed

Now hoping the next driver series (319.xx) will bring more exciting news like the initial R310 did. Cheers.
